One of these days during my daily walk in a beautiful neighborhood close to my house in Edenvale, I was ferociously confronted by a lapwing bird, also known as peewit, who approached me violently defending its nearby nest.
Absorbed by my own thoughts while walking, I didn’t realize that I had come so close to the nest, endangering it and instigating that bird’s maternal protective instinct. The indignation of that mother bird however, made me recall Mother Theresa’s quotation: “if you want to change the world, go home, and love your family!” That lapwing was doing just that, loving its nestlings.
The world is in bad shape, all we hear is about global warming, political unrest, criminality, and wars. We certainly feel powerless to change it. But we can indeed go home and love our family! Mother Theresa’s impressive quotation was surely articulated based on her deep Christian convictions sourced from the Bible, where the teachings about the importance of family are broadly found.
The Bible teachings are also for you and me, it contains abundant and clear guidelines about family. It teaches about honoring the parents, loving the spouse, teaching the children, and much more.
Amidst the world’s chaotic realities let us not leave our family at risk. Our spouse, our children, our grandchildren, our parents, or our siblings. They all need to be loved by us! This means to be present, available, caring and truthful to all of them.
Continuing my walk, I rerouted my steps distancing myself from that nest so eagerly defended by that mother bird who inspired me to go home and do the same for my own.
Yes, in 2024 let's change the
world! Let's go home and love our family!
