Avoiding burn out!

(2 minutes read)

I have always been fascinated by those jugglers that maintain plates spinning over sticks. They begin by spinning just a few plates and then increase to a large number of them spnining at the same time. They succeed for some time, but after a while, overwelmed by the effort, they must stop otherwise the plates will undoubtedly fall and brake.

At times I feel like these jugglers. I start my ventures with much intensity, but with time I get tired and my undertakings fall by the wayside leaving very little accomplished. Have you ever had this same sensation?

There is however a great difference between jugglers and Christians. While jugglers make individual efforts, Christians should make collective ones. The bible teaches that we are part of a body, the body of Christ, where there are several members executing complementary functions and all following same master who perfectly leads them.

This comprehension helps us to understand that we are not alone, nor do we need to face the situations by ourselves. There are mature Christians around us who can support us and help us on the way. The thing is that many times we close ourselves to this reality and become isolated.

In the body of Christ we can find extra shoulders for comfort, extra hands for sharing the loads, and extra heads for peer reflecting. It is like a top consultancy offering us fullness of life, if we would only open ourselves to receive it.

We don't need to continue as solitary jugglers, we can follow Jesus the master and enjoy the solidarity of others. He knows the way better than anyone, for he has faced all the situations that we now have to face. The master calls us to receive the contribution from others and at the same time contribute to them. If we try that we won’t burn out nor brake any plates!

  • When do you feel overwelmed like the jugglers?
  • When and how have your receive consultancy from the Body of Christ?
